And The Winner Is...

Thank you all for the amazing response to my Vintage Faux Fur Coats post! I got lots of entries and I found it impossible to pick a winner, so I did the following:

1. I gave each comment a number
2. I got my little sister to run through the numbers in her head as fast or as slow as she liked for a minute and the name of the person was written down
3. We did this three times
4. Then I put the names of the three finalists into a shoe (I didn't have hat handy at the time) and she drew a winner

And the winner is:

"I want a brown or Camel one! NOW!"- Jordan

Follow Jordan on Twitter here and read her blog here

Yay Jordan!

You can still order your own vintage faux fur coat. I have 10 beautiful new coats in stock in various colours and styles. Will post pictures of each of them soon.

I came across this site via @deidrevisser. I have a head ache and make-up all over my face from laughing so hard.

I'll be posting one of these daily.

Vintage Faux Fur Coats

Latest Fashion Obsession:

I have been looking for the perfect faux fur coat for absolute aaaaages... All I could find were jackets that were ugly, hideous, or over-priced.  And then today, just like the pot at the end of the rainbow, I stumbled upon a little bit shint, sparkly, of faux fur heaven.

I walked into this warehouse and there were literally hundreds of coats, just hanging about, waiting for me to put them on my body. HUNDREDS!

I bought two, and then I had to hold myself back. And then I decided to go back tomorrow.

Now I want to share the happiness with you. These coats are in amazing condition and are absolutely perfect for Oppikoppi. And around town. And any time. They are all imported from Europe and are super warm.

I'm selling these coats on order. There are various colours from black to grey to brown to camel to outrageous like pink and green and blue.

Here are the two that I got:

This one is just too ridiculously awesome. I cannot deal.
The coats are going for between 300 and 500 rond and you can order directly from me. If you're going to Oppikoppi, I can take yours there for you and you can be warm and sexy all at the same time.

I'm in love with these coats.

How To Get A Gorgeous Bum: Just Walk

You know what I'm like... When it comes to getting my body in shape, I like to get maximum benefit, with minimum effort. That's why I know that FitFlop are the shoes for me!

This is what their website says:

"FitFlop footwear is biomechanically engineered to help tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk in them. Studies at the Centre for Human Performance at LSBU show that normal walking in FitFlop sandals* can help:
  • help increase leg and bottom muscle activity (up to 30%). (so you feel less ache in your hips and knees)
  • absorb more shock than a normal shoe (up to 22%)
  • help realign ground force reaction closer to your joints"
And...AND! they aren't even ugly, look:

SuperTone FitFlop Sneaker

I am getting myself a pair of those badboys. I'm going to start wearing them in place of my feet. Why go barefoot when you can tone your bum with a pair of those? Exactly. I might even start wearing them around...gasp! Constantia Village!

Want to get your feet in a pair of these?

AWESOME! Cause FitFlop is running a winter promotion right now, and you could win yourself a pair worth R1, 950!

I Look Forward To Many More Weekends Like This One

My word. What a weekend! I need the next week just to recover.

Relaxing facial, hair appointment, bubbly, flowers, cocktails, dinner, stay in a hotel, breakfast, presents, macaroons, pub golf, crash a 30th, Turkish take-aways, taxi ride, sleep, breakfast, cake, series, flight, see parents, collapse.

That was pretty much my Anniversary/Birthday Weekend in a nutshell.

My highlights for the past weekend were:

Waking up from a wonderful facial to eyebrows that were expertly tinted in my sleep by my thoughtful beauty therapist at Elements On Kloof

The best blow-dry I've ever had by Thembi at Scar

Arriving at our penthouse suite on the rooftop of The Grand Daddy to a huuuuge bunch of flowers from Nash and a celebratory bottle of Bubbly from The Daddy himself

A flower vendor declaring his eternal love to me on Long street as I had the strongest cocktail of my life at Boo Radley's

Delicious Tappas dinner at Fork

Waking up on my Birthday above the bustle of Long Str in an Airstream Trailer and being gifted with gorgeous jewelry and delicious macaroons

Pub Golf at various bars with added highlights such as:

-Gorgeous gifts from my girls
-Nash taking over the organisation of all the "golfers" along the way so that I could just party and not   have to make sure everything was going the way it should (if it were up to me, I'd have forgotten about the planned route by the second hole and just stayed right there)
-A couple of songs by Holiday Murry at Purple Turtle
-Mellon downing three draughts and then promptly vomiting...on the second hole
-The Personal Trainer (TPT) removing his shirt as we danced on a table at Marvel
-Wearing a monkey mask and trying to be sexy for Nash on the dance floor, only to have him laugh and a group of strangers applaud
-Our entire party crashing a boring 30th at Grand Daddy Hotel and Nash throwing down some break dance moves in a dance-off
-The most horrible wrap I've ever had at a Turkish take-away
-Getting home safely thanks to One For The Road

Surprise breakfast of Eggs Benedict at Jonkershuis with Nash

Countless episodes of Boardwalk Empire while inhaling a variety of macaroons

Being told on my flight to Joburg that I looked "ill" and "much older than 23" by an obnoxious little flight attendant man as a battled through wave after wave of the most horrendous post-hangover nausea I've ever experienced. No make-up, btw.

Seeing my mom

I didn't think any Birthday could ever be as good as last year's...but this managed it, somehow.

If you've never played Pub Golf, I suggest you get on that. It is possibly the most fun I've ever had playing a drinking game, and getting dressed up makes it even better. The Rooftop Trailer Park at The Grand Daddy is absolutely incredible and they sure do know how to spoil you.

Everything about this weekend was perfect (if you don't count the fact that someone organized a flipping rugby match on my birthday). Thank you so much to everyone who sent a message of any kind (sms, bbm, facebook, twitter, phone call, email) and to all my friends who came out to celebrate!

Especially big thanks to Elements On Kloof, Scar, The Grand Daddy, and One For The Road for making it happen.

Eggs Florentine Recipe

Eggs Benedict - ABSOLUTELY not cooked by me

I just finished cooking Eggs Benedict...which turned out to be Eggs Florentine... Benedict is the one with the ham, and mine had spinach.

I'm going to need a massage, a Red Bull... and therapy.

I like to think I'm a pretty accomplished cook. Like not many basic recipes could challenge me.

Well, I'll tell you what... Eggs Benedict can go jump off a cliff. As can Eggs Florentine. Never to be cooked by me again.

Here's the recipe for those of who are brave enough to attempt it:

(serves 2)

You will need:

3 egg yolks
4 eggs
175g butter- cubed
2 table spoons water
handful of baby spinach
salt & pepper
squeeze of lemon
27 arms
energy supplement
physio therapist (for your shoulder)

In a small pot, bring about 1/4 pot of water to the boil

In another pot, bring about 3/4 pot of water to the boil

Line 4 coffee mugs with cling film

Break 1 egg into each cup and tie a knot in the top

When the water in the small pot has come to a rapid boil, turn the heat way down

Place a glass bowl onto the pot, but make sure the bottom of the bowl doesn't reach the water

Add 2 table spoons of water to egg yolks, and place in this glass bowl

Place your 4 parcels of egg into boiling water in the other pot

Whisk your water and egg yolks over the steaming pot until the mixture becomes puffy and light in
colour and makes a ribbon when you lift the whisk out of the bowl

Now start adding your butter cubes, one at a time, until they have all melted-never stop whisking!!

Add a squeeze of lemon and some salt and pepper

Remove your egg parcels from the pot once the eggs are cooked

Place your spinach into a steamer (or sieve if you don't have a steamer) and place it over the boiling water (from the egg parcel pot) and place a plate on top

You'll know your hollandaise is ready when your shoulder has gone into spasm and the mixture is the consistency of lightly beaten cream

Plate up your eggs with a little spinach and spoon over some of that hollandaisy gold

Replenish your aching muscles with a protein shake and go lie down in a dark room for 30-60 minutes

One Year In

Tomorrow is our 1 year anniversary. This time last year I was packing my bags for a trip to Cape Town to celebrate my birthday with a boy I only knew through his tweets and his blog.

I was a fan of his blog. He was a fan of watching me on tv in mute.

And 1 year later we live in a house together in the heart of the most most beautiful city in the world.

He is amazing.
